Currumbin Valley Renovation

This brick home, located in the scenic Currumbin Valley amidst the trees, was designed for a young family of three and their dog, with a focus on reconnecting them to the surrounding landscape. The existing home presented several challenges: there was no proper entrance (the entry was through the laundry), the living spaces were dark and uncomfortable—too hot in summer and too cold in winter—and the outdoor entertainment area was poorly lit and disconnected from the kitchen and living areas. Additionally, both the interior and exterior finishes, including the kitchen, were outdated.

The design concept for this renovation centered around creating a new, proper entrance to the house. This entrance led to an outdoor corridor, covered by a glass roof, which became the heart of the home, allowing natural light to flow into the outdoor entertainment area, kitchen, and living spaces. Upon entering the new door, the experience was one of surprise: an abundance of natural light and beautiful views of the surrounding Currumbin Valley trees.

The internal layout was reconfigured around the previous entry, isolating the laundry and creating an entrance room that served as a central distribution point for the flow of movement to the various areas of the house. A new study nook was incorporated into this space, visually accessible from the kitchen, which proved ideal for the young family. To enhance the feeling of spaciousness in the living area, the roof was insulated between the existing rafters and lined with white VJ panels, reflecting the natural light coming through the glass roof and further brightening the space.
