Terranora Renovation

Located at the top of the hill in Terranora, this 1980s brick and tile house initially did not capitalise on the stunning ocean views. The existing design resulted in dark, disjointed, and cramped interior spaces, which were not suitable for the needs of this family of four.

The primary request from the clients was to create higher ceilings, larger living areas, a more spacious kitchen, and a master retreat complete with an ensuite and walk-in wardrobe. The new addition at the rear of the house seamlessly integrates the living spaces with the landscape, featuring a large corner window and louvres that offer uninterrupted views. A unique pivoting chair was incorporated into this corner to create a special spot for soaking in the sun during winter while admiring the expansive views. The master retreat was also enhanced with a daybed, allowing the occupants to fully embrace the ocean vistas.

Sustainability was a top priority for the clients, leading to the use of environmentally sourced materials. The original brick was treated with a limewash finish, and the new additions were clad in 100% recycled timber, including a combination of Blackbutt and charred Jarrah. All windows were replaced with black-framed designs, contributing to a neutral colour scheme that blends off-white, black, and timber elements harmoniously.

The interior design of the master retreat is minimalist, reflecting another key client request. All cabinetry was custom-designed with an emphasis on clean lines and simple textures, ensuring a serene and elegant aesthetic.
